Take me somewhere nice
by Christina Ciupke and Darko Dragičević
Take me somewhere nice is a two-year project about travel and tourism. It is a collaboration between the choreographer and performer Christina Ciupke and the visual artist, performer and filmmaker Darko Dragičević. In this project, they are interested in the history of the insatiable longing for travel and how this longing has led to the phenomenon of mass tourism and many other manifestations of travel. What draws us to faraway places? What do we hope to find there? Are we searching, or is it an escape, a utopian longing for a better life? Is traveling existential for us? Is it an expansion of consciousness? In this day and age, can we only find relaxation far away from everyday life? Has traveling become an addiction rather than a longing? The experience of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020-2022 has brought the topic of travel and its importance for our society today to the fore. In anticipation of a massive change in travel behavior over the next two years, our research anticipates a future understanding of this phenomenon. To this end, a two-year overall framework has been designed to address travel as a narrative in six consecutive almanacs.
